Greenway Spirit & Word Fellowship

The Deacon Ministy of  GSWF is a vital part of the life of this congregation.  A Deacon, in accordance with Acts 6:1-7 and 1 Timothy 3: 8-13, must be a loving, loyal, Spirit-filled, steadfast individual with a team player mindset.  A Deacon's wife must be supportive of her husband and the Leadership of GSWF.  She should be her husband's biggest encourager and exhibit discreetness with sensitive information and openness to the HOLY SPIRIT's working and gifting in both their lives.  Both the husband and wife must be free of addictions, bigotry and not given to slander or gossip.  Both must understand that the husband and the wife are to be examples to others in their faithfulness to the WORD with their wise use of time especially to the LORD's work and faithful to the worship services and other meetings of HIS house, using their GOD-given talent to further the Kingdom of GOD and the tithing of their increase simply because of their love for JESUS and obedience to HIS WORD.

How do I know this place (GREENWAY) is safe?
Healthy structure is not the most obvious thing in the church.  What we are known for is not going to be our wise government, but our LOVING ENVIRONMENT.   However, government is important for everything to function well.

  • 1 Timothy 3: 1-13    Overseers and Deacons
  • 1 Peter 5: 1-3    To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 Be shepherds of GOD's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers- not because you must, but because you are willing, as GOD wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
  • Acts 20: 28    Keep watch over  yourselves and all the flock of which the HOLY SPIRIT has made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of GOD, which HE bought with HIS  own blood.

1.  BISHOPS, ELDERS AND PASTORS ARE THE SAME PEOPLE
a.  Elder describes the person
b.  Bishop describes the office
c.  Pastor describes the heart

2.  LEADERSHIP IS ALWAYS PLURAL
Hebrews 13:17  Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  They keep watch over you as men who must give account.  Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
Acts 20:17  From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.
Proverbs 15:22   Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12  Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. 10  If one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!  11  Also if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone?  12  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

3.  THERE IS ONE LEAD ELDER AMONG THE ELDERS
a.  In the Godhead  (1 John 5:7; 1 Cor. 11:3)
b. In the Family (Gen. 2:24; 1 Cor. 11:3
c.  In Israel (Num. 11: 16-17; 27: 16-17)
d.  In the Synagogue (Acts 13:15; 19: 8, 17)
e.  In the Church (Titus 1:5; 21:18)
